What is a Guardian Home?
Our Irish Setter or Irish Oodle Guardian Program allows us to expand and improve our breeding program without compromising our dogs’ happiness and need for love and attention. While we love having all our dogs with us, we understand that they thrive with more one-on-one attention than we can provide.
As a Guardian Home, you become the permanent home for one of our breeding dogs while they are in our program. After their retirement, they will be spayed/neutered at our expense, and full ownership will transfer to you, allowing you to keep the dog forever. This program offers you the opportunity to have one of our puppies or young adults as a family pet with no upfront cost!
By participating in the Guardian Program, our dogs get to live their best lives in a loving, caring home where they receive ample one-on-one attention.

The Best of Both Worlds
Every puppy is initially raised by us, with us being their first caretakers. When a dog joins your family, you become their primary caregiver, and we become like a “Grandma.” When the dog returns to us for breeding purposes, it feels like a familiar visit to Grandma’s house, making the transition smooth and stress-free.
Additionally, if you go on holiday and cannot take the dog with you, they can stay with us instead of a boarding kennel. With advance notice, we can usually accommodate this.
Cost to Become a Guardian
There is no upfront cost to become a Guardian. You receive a top-quality dog, hand-selected to remain in our program. The dog remains the property of Irish Oodles Australia until their breeding contract is completed. Afterward, we handle the spaying/neutering, and full rights of the dog transfer to you.
Guardian Family Responsibilities
- Regular Care: Provide food, treats, toys, and other daily needs.
- Vet Care: Cover normal vet care not related to breeding.
- Grooming: Keep the dog groomed, whether professionally or personally.
- Training: Teach basic commands, positive reinforcement only, and continue potty and crate training.
- Living Arrangements: Keep the dog as an indoor pet.
- Socialisation: Ensure the dog is well-socialised with other dogs and people.
- Exercise: Provide adequate exercise and mental stimulation.
- Transport: Bring the dog to and from the breeder.
- Communication: Coordinate effectively with the breeder.
- Fencing: Have a secure yard.
- Vacations: If away, the dog can stay with us at no cost.
Breeder Responsibilities
- Provide a healthy dog at no cost.
- Cover health testing.
- Pay for all breeding-related expenses.
- Teach the Guardian Family about heat cycles and pregnancy care.
- Handle spaying/neutering upon retirement.
- Offer lifetime support for the dog.
- Take the dog back if the Guardian Family can no longer care for them.
Location Requirements
Must live in Queensland, preferably on the Sunshine Coast, or Brisbane and Gold Coast and areas up to a two hour drive may also be considered.

Such a playful little girl. Likes to be your shadow or foot pillow. Very rarely does such a little one become available so early. Toilet training is well underway, Along with crate training and lead training. She just loves to please. Very confident around the other bigger dogs.
